Could It All Be Connected?
The pelvic floor consists of a woven basket-like group of muscles that act as “the floor of the core.” The function of the pelvic floor is directly related to the function of the core through a natural co-contraction and a mutual need for optimal pelvic alignment. These muscles must be balanced and resilient to work in cooperation with other core muscles to properly support your organs.
When your core is elongated and engaged during daily activities, the pelvic floor is also lifted and supported. However, if your core muscles are weak and inactive, the body collapses and uses other methods to stabilize itself, such as bulging or bracing. That lack of stability combined with the bulging increases the internal pressure on your organs. That pressure has to go someplace, and that place is often down against your pelvic floor. (Learn more about the effects of core weakness on the pelvic floor).
The Tummy Team approach identifies the big picture of how your body works together instead of simply focusing on individual symptoms to help you restore your core and pelvic floor in meaningful practical ways. It is more than a set of isolated exercises, but rather a connected and coordinated way of living.
Functional Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation is neuromuscular re-education and therapeutic exercise focused on restoring the muscles of the pelvic floor to effectively support the pelvis and pelvic organs for upright everyday physical demands without pain or dysfunction.
You do not need to live with these frustrating symptoms. We can help.
